Dear reader, Today I would like to make a few recommendations of book and song material. I’ve always been one to be emotionally moved by a good melody, or a content-rich/(message-valuable), book. I believe you’re like that too. Like me, you are probably aware of many good artists who have perished.
As the evil-one so adeptly does (and always has), he seduces while intending harm. I’m going to quote a modern day song which fits that description, “All I wanna do is (bang, bang) – (gun shot sound, reload, effects), and take yo money!” Now, for many of us, we’re de-sensitized and accustomed to this language in all types of modern media. But those lyrics spread malice motive!
I call your attention to the simplistic evil in that song. And, present to you antithesis/alternative. Instead of that former message, I direct your attention to a couple of Christian songs that are wonderful for our minds. Good thoughts lead to good actions.
First, I recommend a song named “Christ [He] Will Hold Me Fast”. A rendition by Keith Getty and Kristyn Getty from the ‘Getty Music’ label (2016) will probably please your ears. And, the reminder that Christ indeed does hold we who believe in Him “fast”, gives comfort and faith. Yes, the Getty’s do it again, consistently singing wonderful Christian songs that uplift us and encourage morality. It’s contemporary and seductive, in praise of goodness.
Second, I recommend “God, Above All the World In Motion” by ‘Grapevine’, on the ‘Integrity Music’ label (2007).
Note that both of these titles I first heard on a Christian radio station. Upon finding the presumed titles of both songs, I found more detail online. If those are not the songs I heard, accept my apology. Though, even if these are different titles than what I heard on radio, you are still going to hear great songs!
Third, I recommend a German-US “cross-over” band. They go by the name ‘Frida Gold’. While not integrally Christian (would have to do a lyric study), I enjoyed witnessing a small-venue, live concert (2015), as a German-domestic&export-concert aired, by TV station ‘ZDF’. While I did not watch it in its entirety, two songs that stood out for me were: “Run, run, run”, and, “Touch the Sky”.
Fourth, I recommend a travel-guide-book for you journey-takers and adventurers. The title of that book is: “111 Extreme Places in Europe That You Shouldn’t Miss!” This is not mentioned to you as a review [as I will do at times]. However, if you are looking for the German perspective on Europe’s most “extreme” places to visit (from their own professional and well-scouted test journeys), this book should be read. Even f you do not travel to the places in person, reading the book and seeing its pictures would be a virtual-traveling experience in itself. That is the “magic” of a good book; and, the power of photography.
Fifth, and last for today, if you are looking for a Catholic book that promotes the lessons of fatherhood, emulation of a stable husband role, and male humility (in general), please read ‘St. Joseph The Protector’.
That’s it for today’s post: May 16, 2021. As always, thank you for reading!
