NATO: Ukraine and Syria, in recent years. Germany’s role, and nearly disastrous mistake:
Germany, in recent years, nearly embroiled the United States in a war with Russia; Ukraine being one frontal area that was heating up with great intensity. (The Baltic nations, also requiring US and ‘NATO’ troop protection). The extent to which Germany balanced its own influence and showed its ability to act with restraint, is not clearly known to me. It does appear there was some.
Friends, the objectives of nations is usually something that is both of an internal and private nature. That’s rightful, until hostility and breaches of law emerge. But, for those who do not know, ‘NATO’ is an alliance which must self regulate and show restraint against its own potentially liberal and dangerous military campaigns. Defense comes at a price for every member who wants defense.
It exists as a military might. But, it also promulgates peace, by requiring careful considerations through consensus of member nations in all strategy.
A few years ago, Germany, nearly drew the United States (‘NATO’s’ large contributor) into war against Russia. That larger war would have had one front, among others, in Ukraine. I look back to that year today, with tremendous gratitude today, for the ability of many people to dissuade and deter that conflict from getting worse. It was achieved with military might and successful public outcry. But, also restraint; and diffusion of tensions.
What ended up occurring, was that Syria became a contentious area of geography (a front). More, than at Ukraine. And there, the battle was won.
Interventions there, invited other nations: Turkey (one), to meddle in Syria (militarily) as well. And, strangely, the US had its own propaganda campaigns which urged US citizens to hate on Syria.
Peace is not easily achieved. The USA, Russia, and some countries’ leaders within ‘NATO’, did a fine job of preventing further exploit of the situation. Some of those leaders of the USA, Russia, and EU, were branded with chastisement… by others beating the war drum. There were some who wanted war to intensify with Russia, in Ukraine. This would have brought wider spreading war to Europe. None was able to successfully exploit the situation to worse calamity, as much as they had hoped to, thankfully. Not Turkey, not Iran, and not anyone else.
