a need for “balanced” environmentalism, here’s why:
You don’t have to want to become the US president, to prove to yourself or anyone else, that you’ve succeeded in life. Think of all the good people across America, who succeed with God’s plan for them, every day that we are privileged to live and breathe.
Our failures are however, a reason to seek a more successful tomorrow.
With regard to global warming, if you believe it’s a real threat, then we agree that Americans have thus far failed greatly in improving our temperatures and general climate. We could give our domestic and foreign policy on it, a very low grade. Now the Democratic party might claim, that its party alone care deeply enough to do something about global warming. That would be a fallacy. However, the Democrats have set the tone for discussing this. And, have long been appropriately tenacious. And, the issue must be discussed and heeded.
But, ask yourself this while considering what to do: Is any future US president willing to tell the millions of Americans who commute to workplaces (in a time other than campaigning for self or a future pal in the party), to stop driving to work? Would you stop
putting gas in your gasoline tank, giving up a daily commute on highways? Would you quit your commute and start working from home as many like me do? Would you tell maintenance folks to stop putting gasoline in their leaf blowers? No doubt that would help curb global warming. Doing all of this would also cause a drastic economic collapse! Sure it would work, but it is not viable or sensible. A Republican or a Democrat can realistically implement needed fixes, that are part of a success plan, (without such a drastic singlular approach), by bolstering carbon emissions’ controls as the primary fundamental action. A fair amount of success has so far been achieved, or at least in speech the tone was set.
Building an oil pipeline is not something to abandon and I’ll explain why not. And, it should not be the devil – the fact is that we need oil pipelines. We should be grateful for the natural resource.
Harvesting new oil, using it wisely and in increasingly more measured amounts by adapting behavior and leveraging Internet connectivity benefits, and selling oil to other countries, is not only an economic boon yet to be realized in reducing our skyrocketing deficit. So too, it will also keep us less involved in future deadly wars – even those that many Democrats might later stand behind… again… perish the thought.
The control of emissions is the crucial and needed action, not the constrictions of multiple energy supplies, which include natural gas, water, solar power, hydro-electric, hydrogen, fossil fuels, and some other sources I am not aware of. I’m sure Alaskans and Canadians can see the sense and logic in attacking emissions… as opposed to cutting off a pipeline – with significant economic losses to the nation and global partnering nations as a result. And, we’d still then have continuing public bickering over doing (in effect) nothing about emissions’ standards. And, the warmest regions of the USA should be able to see today, the sense in piping oil, but controlling emissions and use. Both need doing… in concert with each other, as viable strategy.
And, a very healthy degree of objectivity that the next US president has, will help achieve success.
Neither ignorant idealism nor radical environmentalism will produce a harmonious, bipartisan, holistic solution, where the opponents otherwise, could and must work together to benefit the globe.
Our current president has passed the torch, now it’s in large part up to we the people, and the youngest voters in America, to vote for the next president who can strike this strategic balance while many of us begin to retire. And, while this is only one issue, it is a very important one that the next president must not ignore, nor be too in love with. The economy is still in great need of repair through objectivity. And many soldiers returning from wars, need exactly that – a balanced fix, by a balanced executive in chief. One who has personal experience in global business and finance; but, also a deep appreciation and concern on behalf of the economic interests of the struggling American family – military family or other. A family that has fought in wars in huge part, over oil that we seemingly yet did not know that we had evidently… here in our own country, in proportion, in the ground. Now that we have it, shouldn’t we pay the respect to America, to harvest what we have here in our country?
A fanatical environmentalist might boldly answer “no”; but we need another attitude in the executive office… for at least 4 years, from January 21, 2017. An attitude that respects those who have fought, that creates oil jobs and energy independence, and that cares about safer alternatives to “fracking” methods which were likely invented out of extreme dire need. While solar paneling is too expensive for most families, even in densely populated areas, it should be phased in gradually too; and it is being, by private companies. But, our government must use “all options on the table”, to create a healthy mix of energy resources, while
closing down aging nuclear plants, preventing oil spills, slowly incorporating the “green” technologies. Nothing as grand an issue can be fixed realistically and properly, as quickly as we might like to believe, but the path has been phased in. Wisdom will tell us that rushing is not the answer. The answer is, that like closing a flood gate or tightening a border, reducing the emissions is the first most important singular step. And, like all progress, taking steps in sequence, is the only way to go forward “walking”.
In California, the state takes pride in being the pioneers of American’s future. “As California goes, so too go the other states” is a common phrase. One of the interesting things about this state, is its incredible high taxation in almost every tax category (according to HJTA data). For those of you who don’t know, HJTA keeps people’s homes affordable and those living in them, more likely to be able to afford a current luxury – solar panels.
The same source, says that the state is “swimming in revenue”. What that means, is that in theory, we don’t need oil anymore, because we’re so wealthy that we can sit on our fat a**es! And, power our “Toyota Prius'”, charge up our cell phones, TV’s, other appliances, “Google” “nests”, and “Apple” computers (to name a few). Strangely this is not the case. Relatively few have all these fancy toys or ammenities. California has a huge automobile use and daily automobile commute, which congests our highways and emits huge amounts of CO2, and also electrical emissions by the way. So, despite all that revenue which in large part the Federal reserve appreciates too, most of us work longer hours and commute longer distances to pay for all these things. Strange.
Don’t you think? So, we need a governor here, more than other states do, who first wants the job, second, who cares about global warming, and third, has the ability and ethical make-up to lead as a politician. So, I invite any candidate who loses the US presidential nomination, to consider running for California governor. In my case, that will be my number two pick. I guess, I’ll have to wait for the nominations, which should be occurring about now.
Mid August was in the past, when the Republican party made their nomination. So by that standard, the RNC is already behind schedule. We gotta get going on this. No service to us exists, in building the suspense, as far as I can tell.
