“Land of the free”, still? Or, land of the not-as-much-free, but more than most other?
Friends, a lot of us (myself included) have “gushed” about how great a country we live in. Comparatively speaking, the freedoms here are immense and guarded. But, I want to give a more thorough picture, as I am a longtime native.
A “pendulum swing” (think of an old grandfather-clock ticking away each second, back and forth, not ever maintaining any “wins” in either direction, rather “losses” in both directions) is often used as analogy by some Americans (a rather fatalist description), to describe their observations of the political power swings in America (between “libertine anarchy” and “imperialism”) every four or eight years. But, the left appears to reside in both spaces, while accusing the right of the latter (imperialism). Both 2 preeminent US parties have been seen crafting prior to 2016, and now today. Thus, traditionally, the “pendulum swing” characterized the observable shifts between Democrat and Republican leadership. “Left”, “center”, and “right” can appear arbitrary, when distorted perceptions cultivate the view that everything is merely transitory, that nothing of importance lasts; moreover, that nothing really matters except to those who wield the power and the influence on the world.
There are “moments” when some of us feel and enjoy the “status quo” (or the “center”). For a moment in time, we experience the non-committal feeling that is void of any adherence or obligations to “extremes” in ideology (at least perceived as such). Rarely (as in these last four years) have we cultivated global strength through peace, corrected our own trade imbalances by firm negotiation rather than pleading, defended our own Constitutional liberty at home, and fostered healthy economy using fewer regulations (to name four main achievements… despite all adversities and doubts).
How about the last four years? Was it a time for you to inhale? To exhale? Or, to do both, finally?
I find it (the “pendulum” analogy) more of an observational term, rather than a justification for continued oscillations back and forth as a nation. What do I mean by that? Well, the fact of the matter is that the “dial” on the “radio” is and always should be set to “Constitutional Republic”. As our Constitution disregard and rightly inhibit the violations of swinging left and right, any such abandon and disregard of the Constitutional virtuosity should remind us to set our compass to “true north”, while parties often throw their fists at it.
When examining party lines during the prior four years of today, the “right” has not disregarded the Constitution. It has been a defender, and we’ve made great gains to be grateful for. Opposite, that which some might falsely claim. Just because a party attempt to drag the point of “centrism” further to the “left”, by wildly going so far left beyond itself, does not mean that somehow we can all now compromise the position of the recognizable and true “center”. Neutrality has to have an agreeable position and point.
There is no justice in abandoning the rights and obligations afforded us under the Constitution, as though it were somehow a seasonal “phenomena” (likened to “daylight savings’ time” switches; or, like change in the weather, that also subsides on a certain date and second.
Friends, I’ve been accustomed to political changes brought about by both parties of our government, to its own ends, purposes, and agendas. These past four years have awakened a whole, huge, group of people, who have been thirsty for the continued living under regained liberties. We came out and voted for four more years of a Donald J. Trump/Michael Pence Executive Office. And, we look to our US courts (the 3rd branch-The Judiciary), to defend our liberties again. “We the People” have spoken.
I’m also old enough to have experienced the gross violations of my personal rights and liberties, living in this land as an American – which is remarkable, given that it is a land which fashions liberty.
For members of other countries, outside of the USA, you may be familiar with the United Nations’ own “Guarantees of Human Rights”. The ‘UN’ publicize those; and, they have a court that is supposed to defend those virtues too (‘ICC’). The United States Constitution enumerates many of the same rights, as it’s a precedent and sacred legal frame which stands on its own.
As an American, the rights… outlined in Our Constitution, theoretically are enough to protect us in our US Courts.
Our more left leaning parties, and, those persons who have acted outside of the law (encouraged by some left leaning parties) during these prior four years, have pursued the destruction and safety of protectors of those rights. Media members have also been guilty of the same conduct-practically getting out of the way from between us. And, so, it should be no surprise to you that they have duly pursued the destruction of those rights at the United Nations’ level, by proxy and practice, as well. Provided, of course, the brunt of their contempt land only upon those political adversaries of their choosing… pursuing the restriction of our freedoms, armed with corporate power against their targets.
I’d like to tell you how many of the United Nations’ legal protections, have in their legal standing, failed to protect me as an American. These violations, looking back, are some that many persons have become accustomed to as “every day life” – in an otherwise “free” America. They can be identified as having failed us, by not safeguarding under normal and otherwise commonplace conditions. That is to say, I would like to give you an exact number of those violations which my nation’s members has perpetrated against me in my memory. Anything short of 100% compliance, enforced by my government’s rule, would have me giving it and her people a less than A+ grade. Were it not for defenders, we’d all be slaves.
As you will see here, the resulting score falls well short of best practices. And, that is reality despite living in a country with a reputation for being freedom loving (or THE freest country); known to me as being such. Yes, violations have degree of evil… shades from black to white. Nevertheless, violations are violations, even if only minimally exerted.
1. Failures, instances clearly having violated my rights: (11 of 30 articles) 1,2,4,5,8,9,11,12,27,28,30
2. Freedoms that are at risk, with potential violations of my rights based on recent observations of current events: (16 of 30 articles) 7,10,13,14,15,16,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,29
3. Not in violation (these, of my rights and privileges, have not been violated): (3 of 30 articles) 3,6,17
There is no “returning back to normal” (as promised by a leader) if our government aims to manipulate us, by oscillating between two extreme points of ideology and practices. And, by seizing our liberty, protections, rights, from us. Once some of those liberties have already been eroded, the other liberties are at risk too. Your free-will is indispensable; and, we ought always be safeguarding our right to defend every one of these rights every single day.
