Which movie do you think I will review today?
Can you guess which of 4 family movies it might be? Is it “Frozen 2”? Is it “Abominable”? Is it “The Lion King”?
All of those 3 would be possible, but guess what? It’s none of these! This review is for “Addam’s Family”!
There are so many good things to say about this movie “snap, snap”; from a film narrative studies’ and intellectual perspective, certainly. This movie warrants a sociology study for students, ethnic musicology, culture and history; and, even modern sociological notions with regard to mass surveillance and domination over slaves.
Whether you are aware that “Addam’s Family” was a televised series or not, the imagination put into this perfect duration of animated film is amazing. Quite possibly, it will exceed your expectations; whether you’ve ever watched the televised series or not. Unless you’re being unfair.
You might be telling yourself, “Ok, but Chris always gives positive reviews on movies”. Well, it just so happens that the animated films I have seen and choose to review, deliver on their advertised lures. If I don’t review what I’ve seen, that’s due to a specific business decision.
So what is this film about, and why is it so good for your young children too?
The literary theme centers on people being freakish in contrast to a cotton-candy world. It’s a world where the macabre contains the true heart and warmth.
Do you and I feel like the outsider at times? Is being “the outsider” somehow exemplary of deficiency; or is it rather virtuous? Do we seek to undo generations of time tested tradition, for the sake of uniformity?
The narrative is good and trustworthy. The writing is most clever and well articulated.
The animation is extremely appealing and inventive.
So what is most exciting about this movie to me? It is a piece and a happy “marriage” of well fleshed out characters, a perfect crafting of theater and music, is comedic, and is moral.
Enjoy this one. It’s sure to please; and at very least, will draw a few chuckles. Just in time for Halloween.
