As a child, it was a familiar title; but, for the original story-line, I encourage you to research that one on your own.

The film opens with a lot of charm and great action. The first scene, quickly establishes its freshness no doubt… asserting that it is not 1950’s Disney animation (which of course is great too, but different).

This is still safe for even young children, and replete with gags that adults can appreciate about procreation and simile of human traits or character. Perhaps the reason for the PG rating, is the scenes of violence and a pace that could cause some amount of distress.

A very witty blend of human language and human personification in animal, there’s a nice balance between humor and tenderness that comes out of this. As a whole it is a well crafted film.

Again, not setting out to recreate the book I don’t think, this (live-action/computer graphics’ composite) children’s film takes viewers on a fun journey through the spirited life of a rabbit on the run – “Peter”. At least, far enough into danger he will go, as required to both eat and sustain his friends and family.

I appreciate the thematic elements. One such theme: teamwork and leadership matters.
So too, we follow the journey of love, for primary characters.

With voice actors that are likely to be recognized, exceptional character acting, and very impressive computer generation, you’re not to be disappointed by the level of imagination and dynamism.

In reference to story-line and themes, we follow the demotion of a Londoner who inherits the “McGregor” cottage. A new generation of “McGregor” (it is suggested), were it not for the love interest would abandon it. And, the same generation of rabbits continue to loot the garden there, knowing there will always be someone guarding the loot.

Demoralized professionally, his (man’s) humiliation and punishment only motivate him to find his way home to love, in quest of his elders’ legacy left behind to him.

“Rabbit”, having lost the love of his parents’ existence to the “McGregors”, finds his tasks even more challenging than before, now that the younger “McGregor” is in charge of the cottage. And what’s worse, is that the woman who did so much for them, now finds young “McGregor” quite the prize.

With his loyal side-kicks, a taunt “Rabbit” routinely pillages his way through “McGregor’s” garden… that is until something happens that changes the events for all.

Adults don’t need to be embarrassed by the adult humor that peppers the film at perfect times; and, children will especially love the characterizations, expressions of the animals, and the action throughout the film.

With a tender and exciting hook, through and through beyond the start, if you are not at first willing to believe the concept that “Peter Rabbit’s” looting is something to have fun with, then it might be unlikely that you can see him as a hero – making exception for the fact that it is in his animal nature and inclination to do what people call looting.

The film is nevertheless neither completely absent nor omnipresent in moralizing about thievery; portraying mostly human need to protect what is of value to us, being truthful to others in portrayal of self, being upright enough to apologize for genuine reasons, and being humble enough to show your affection or vulnerability when it is required to do so.

Using contemporary music that moves the viewers’ emotional investment along quite well, lyrically it seems that the songs were appropriately selected and matched with the visual elements. (That is said without a study on the lyrics).

Central to plot, two characters are presented as branches of the same tree. Beginning with jealousy, hatred, and desire for escape, respectively; toil, frustration, persistence and defeat, are sufficiently dished out to both, in creating the trails. And, the fair maiden does find the way to love, that is right.

As much fun as this story is, the writing still manages to also teach that declaring love is the beginning. Next comes, the motivation to do what is right always and every day after it is found.
As for the garden, well, does the party end with a feast or only a big bang? Go see the movie to get your answer to that.

As promised, my review of “Peter Rabbit” (2018) rated PG: a movie that is based on the Beatrix Potter, classic book tale of the same title.
