I’ve also read about psychiatry, studied some brain disorders in books, and have some knowledge about psychiatry in general – which, like the most critical study on neuro-transmitters and brain science, is a substantive science that should not replace all behavioral sciences but must rather be treated as a prevailing criterion for the rest of the brain sciences. Do not take my advice in place of a specialty doctor’s, but find the inherent value of this post as it relates to California’s cannabis legalization.

This morning, mainstream media has reported “a forced hospitalization of Kanye West into an LA hospital”-presumably its psych ward, if the observation is “involuntary”, which it is reported to have been. Now, for those of you who don’t know, after President Trump’s election, Kanye vowed publicly that “he, would run for US president himself in the future.” I believe he was quoted as saying “in 2020”. I believe also, we have heard that he, has in the past visited the Obama White House. That may be what has given him this new ambition, combined with a possible hatred toward our president elect though such assertion is irrelavent and purely speculative on my part. I’d like to not blame Kanye as racist toward Mr. Trump and Mike Pence, because a presumption of another being racist… even if it is false and provocative, in effect, leaves both parties adopting prejudice and stoking on race inequality – or at very least, if no further harm, causing justifiable feelings of insult.

While this Kanye West presidential ambition may be taken un-seriously, as he has had some public appearances in the media that are strange to some, he does have the constitutional authority – in alignment with basic human rights and dignity as a citizen, to not ONLY run for office, but to announce his ambition. I do however, personally, find him to be a bit abrasive in the public square. But, my feelings aside, he does have rights that I too share with him – Constitutional rights.

Here’s why I post this topic today- first the background information for you, who do not know this: A psychiatric hold, (which is where Kanye was unwillingly forced into today) is a scary thing for any person, everyone can imagine. We should be cautious about rounding up people on psychiatric basis. We know of high profile people being put on psychiatric hold, in part to strip them of their public power and attempt to diminish their spirit, by way of authoritarianism. But, if the hold is truly to observe the mental condition without incarcerating the person, he or she is not doomed. Imagine however being arrested for being emotionally exhausted, rather than being prescribed time off from work – that is genuinely medically necessary, by an officer of the police and/or medics, having no effective opportunity to say a word of dispute about being brought in. Nor, being able to contest the fact that you have committed no crime (unless you have). Nor, having no ability to be appointed a lawyer for defense if you were so inclined, to accept tax paid counsel, with cause. In the case of voluntarily “checking-in” as some notable celebrities have in California, that is of-course voluntary; but, undoubtedly scary too if you are worried about receiving a diagnosis that you don’t want. And, some California celebrities have done just that in the past.

In Kanye’s case today, some might wonder why he is only just now in such a circumstance when he is known for having crashed a stage show in an apparent rude way. Is it because he claims that he wants to be a future president? I hope that is not the reason. My advice to him, is to find his vulnerability and to express it while he’s there under doctor observation. Hopefully they will not just let him out after one day to avoid their responsibility, if he does suffer from unmanaged mental instability. If he could get my advice now, I’m sure it would help him to know that he should be vulnerable. Without knowing that vulnerability is so important, the hold could be a lot longer than he expects it to be. Keep in mind, being confined would drive ANY normal and healthy person to “the edge” at first, wanting nothing more than to be release – especially when he or she has no legal representation to plead sanity. But, with arrest of any kind, deep breath must be of help. And, a willingness to accept the circumstances at the moment. Fortunately we no longer live in times where we round up all the so-called-crazies and lock them away for decades. That is not palliative nor humane. Prison bars and guards, do not ease the mind.

Now on the topic of observance to determine “psychosis”, it is worth noting that most people WOULD go-“psycho” when confined involuntarily in prison. So, in effect, a psychiatric hold can cause the very symptoms that it attempts to observe. In any case, it was reported this morning that Kanye was suffering “severe sleep deprivation”. It is true, that sleep deprivation can cause psychosis. Ask any torture victim, any trained soldier, or even Vietnam vet. “Road rage” is an example that most can relate to on a lower level, where people with relative low tolerance to patience mechanisms “go psycho”. People who experience “rage” too frequently, are legitimately in need of medication. People who go out on physical tirades with their weapons in hand, are now a menace – they need medication!

Our “civilized” secular society, is every bit as instigative as a war zone. At very least, people can exhibit irritability. Over time, even sleep deprivation can cause health problems, mimicking battle-ailments, including psychosis, altered realities, compromised basis for values, decreased sensitivity to care, dissociative disorders, or mental impairment, to name a few. In the same way, over work or even slavery (to go so far as a figurative and literal example), causes such consequence on the human mind in one’s natural life. The point is, therapy is required. And, personal relationship, privacy, and quiet too.

Rarely am I fond of speaking about celebrity health news, but California just recently voted in recreational pot use. And, its connection to psychiatry goes back more than decades. It is not only a medical issue (smoking it), but quickly is now a public conversation. Now, this post is not a medical journal. I share some knowledge though, as I have studied this; because as most of us know… while marijuana can have medicinal benefit in areas such as pain management or by reducing mental stress as a coping mechanism – this therapy is not only beneficial for soldiers suffering PTSD etc., but everyday people who are living in the “crazy cities, suburbs, woods and farms” where mass consumption, heightened consumerism, and constant split-second decision making can degrade mental health. Its reach is far. Brain chemistry is different among persons within a generation, and even generations apart, as natural brain evolution or even degradation occurs as a result perhaps of new polutions and environmental cause. This is why therapy must catch up with the next generation, in order for symptoms to be managed the right way. Not returning to the criminalization of poor mental health, rather the reversal of societal pressure on people.

For certain people, generally we all know that pot consumption can cause (in many people, if not most) paranoia. Now, in light of this celebrity hospitalizations, I believe that we will come to see that MANY paranoia instances will emerge among people who smoke marijuana now legally in California. Will the medical community ignore this? Maybe it will not be as widespread as it could be. But we cannot assume that Colorado’s, or Oregon’s data, will indicate the California experiment of “recreational” pot use to be exact.

But, whether we talk about marijuana or other chemical remedies, not every person can rely upon the same chemistry for optimal individual health as a one size fits all. That is why we cannot compare powerful psychotropes to aspirin. While we all share brain chemistry, some people benefit from liquor more than marijuana. Others benefit more from red wine more than a pill. Some people require cocoa, others require certain herbs for sexual function, heart health, overactive glands, under-active glands. Some persons need more a certain pill than another kind. And then of course, physicians not only make these determinations, but can determine the correct dosage.

And, exercise, regular sleep, and proper diet always help everyone, regardless of medicinal methods of keeping the brain chemistry in good shape.

What I don’t want to see in California, is a society that is unprepared to set rules about pot smoking. People who are prone to paranoia after smoking it, should require physician monitoring or face the risk of involuntary hospitalization.

I personally know that for some, they have known to experience heightened heart-beat pacing after smoking, giddiness; and a sense of heightened submission and lack of awareness both. But, for others, it is just what they need to not feel depression or anxiety. Some of our most prominent musicians used illegal cocaine, LSD etc. Again, brain chemistry is at play in each person’s body differently. Was Bob Marley (an avid pot smoker) suffering from paranoia when he was alive? It did not seem like that was so. I don’t know, but it seems that some people smoke it and become more peaceful in nature, while others don’t need pot to be peaceable. And, we cannot simply assume that race and genetics are the determinate of chemical influence on the body. That would be a racist method of dispensing treatment.

There are some people who are peaceful, but who don’t smoke or drink alcohol or caffeine. But they are not necessarily automatically free of mental health issues.

The point I’m making, is that I would like to advise all people who have never smoked marijuana, to think twice or even three times about starting up. It is just as risky or even more-so, than tobacco, since it alters the brain in psychotropic ways. The more elements that you incorporate into your diet, the more complicated your health goals can become. And, be prepared to possibly be put on a psychiatric hold if you abuse substances.

With regard to legalized limits while driving or operating machinery, unlike alcohol which intoxicates everyone in the same way (legal limits on a time curve), pot causes different people to react in different ways. Psychotropic drugs… uniquely prescribed however, deliver a constancy and a brain balance which does not impair driving or operating of machinery – it does the opposite. Now with pot, we must find a way to measure impairment on the body.

So, regardless of whether Kanye was placed into psychiatric hold today for pot or not; his hospitalization as a topic of psychosis, does allow us to evaluate the impact that legalized cannabis in our state can cause. I’m sorry his event sparked the conversation, but it is something we can thank him for later. And my best advice, is to follow and submit fully to Jesus Christ, to eliminate all the eternal impediments to everlasting life, with His loving protection.

Remember, when you’re placed in psychiatric holds, it can cause great fear and impinge on your feelings of control over your own body chemistry and mood, while also personality judgments are being made with regard to you as a person, which is uniquely an assault on your God given personhood. But, like any health situation, whether it be autism or other brain disorders, where there is love, therapy, medication, understanding from caring doctors who don’t view themselves as authoritarian… support, no spectacle, and good old fashioned religion… we will be afforded healthy minds to ensue and conquer the day without ruining it. It’s also very human of us to all remember that in a world that is often crazy in so many ways, the one’s among us who “never” exhibit any mental fatigue, just may be the REAL freaks and geeks in both private life, public life, or both.

I preface this posting, by stating that while I am not a physician, my premium college tuition to study subjects such as: psychology, biology, and life sciences, come into understanding a current event.
