Arguably the (at-one-time) “most powerful” female; and, one of the more admired women in power of our time, German Chancellor Angela Merkel (this week) bravely defended our US sitting President’s Constitutional right to free speech. That is notable and rare: as foreign leaders rarely defend US presidents amidst US discourse. Especially, during signs of US civil war. This, while some of our nation’s tech companies choose to side with leftists, in violating free speech in America. Especially, of conservative speech that criticize leftist despotism and emerging signs.

At nearly the same time, former Californian governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger made a strange likening of US Patriotism and conservatism, to former Nazi Germany and ‘Kristallnacht’. Though known for being Republican, I argue that he is more Democrat. I had no complaints of him when he governed, per se. Did I hear him correctly?

It seems that he’s “called out” the storming at the nation’s capitol as having been orchestrated by the right, and not by the left (according to German press). Where was his criticism against the leftists who rioted, looted, and engaged in violence in recent years? I’ve heard him say nothing at those times publicly. And, why turn a blind eye to the financial support from some, for the activities of the radical left – who have supported ‘Antifa’ and ‘BLM’? In my view, “the shoe is on the other foot”. Does the left not bear a moral burden for acting out state sponsored terror? With support even from some high level leftist politicians, for their activity? Furthermore, if the capitol storming was in-truth not led by leftist “bad actors”, who and from what political leaning acted first, already many months ago to achieve their own political goals?

As much as I disagree with his comments this week, he has the right to share that view as well. And, I encourage you to read the historical article about the true history of former Germany circa 1930s and 40’s for yourself. Read it, as an example of what can happen and how leftists could do this very same to us. We must avoid any and all political course of suppressing free speech and other Constitutional rights, so that we do not enable tyrants to eventually exterminate us. The Jews in Nazi Germany were little by little removed from their freedoms. They were marginalized, stripped of their rights, abused, and finally exterminated by the millions. The first step, for that to happen similarly here and now, is for those in power to not recognize the legitimate voice/votes of millions of people. Then, to disregard dissent as simply “false claims” against a “pristine election”.

His comment against Patriotism, seems to be an unfair, cheap-shot… that is also using what appears to me an inaccurate reference to German history. He ought to be likening the advances of the left as such.

I’m currently trying to find out at this time from German friends of mine, exactly what Mr. Schwarzenegger may have meant. In all fairness. Because, I don’t see his point, in relation to the true Patriots for any maligned treatment against us. He owes an explanation, apology, or clarification. However, it is understood that he is one to enjoy his rights which include making outrageous claims.

I hope that Mr. Schwarzenegger would perhaps clarify his position (or remain silent about it) remembering that the liberties of our country, are precisely what many Germans and Austrians came to America for, to enjoy and to defend here in our new land. Turning away from Nazi past, only to criticize defenders of that liberty here today in the USA, is insulting and threatening. It reminds me of 2016, when Dems who did not like Donald Trump being voted legitimately into office, called him Hitler. I was dumbfounded when I heard this. And, other countries echoed the same name-calling. We proved them wrong, by delivering the best president in many years.

I know that many of today’s older Germans, including myself, do not agree with such likening and exaggerated stirrings. Germany has moved on from its Nazi past. As has Italy from Mussolini.  Let’s not make mistakes now in the USA.
